Diamond Sourcing
A more personal approach
We source natural diamonds through a network of antique dealers, cutters and suppliers built over four generations, giving us access to an unusually broad selection of stones. We do the initial search and edit, then bring a curated group into the studio for you to see and compare in person. From there, we work together to understand what you're drawn to and refine the selection.
Carat, color and clarity matter. So do shape, proportion, faceting and how the diamond actually looks on your hand.
WHAT WE SOURCE
Old, new, and the ones that are hard to find.
We specialize in antique diamonds: Old Mine, Old European, Antique Step Cut, antique cushions and unusual old cuts, as well as natural modern-cut diamonds.
We also source precious colored stones, including sapphires, emeralds and rubies, for select bespoke projects.
ANTIQUE DIAMONDS
No two are quite the same
Antique diamonds were cut by hand and by eye, often to come alive in the softer light of candles and gas lamps. Their broader, more irregular facets create a distinctive play of light, and each stone has a unique personality.
We don't evaluate them by modern standards of perfect symmetry. We look at shape, faceting, proportion, culet, depth and how the stone carries light. Some are wonky. Some are balanced. Some are shallow and some are deep. Those differences are exactly what we look for in an antique diamond.
HOW WE CHOOSE
More than the GIA report
Two diamonds can look similar on paper and completely different in person.
We call stones into the studio and look at them ourselves before showing them to you. From there, we compare them together - on your hand, in different light and alongside other stones - until we understand what you're drawn to.
DESIGN
The stone leads the design
Once we've found the diamond, the ring is designed specifically for that stone its dimensions, shape, depth and the way it sits on the hand.
We don't ask the stone to fit the design. The design begins with the stone.
